AN OPEN LETTER TO AMERICA’S CHURCHES

As a nation, we currently face one of the most important national elections in our nation’s history.    It will be an election discussed in the history books for generations to come.   And it is an election that both sides realize the importance of.

Little wonder that it is also showing signs of being one of the most embarrassing elections ever.   Because each side believes so strongly that it is important; there are supporters on either side willing to say ANYTHING about the other candidate.

For this reason, I am coming to you to ask your help.     Since Senator Obama has announced his candidacy numerous false e-mails are being circulated throughout the web.   The first round of false rumors stated that Sen. Obama is a Muslim.    This is simply not true.     Senator Obama speaks eloquently of discovering that the most effective means of community organizing in Chicago is through the local churches.   He eventually found salvation in one of those churches and has proclaimed Jesus as his personal savior ever since.    You may not agree with him regarding spiritual matters but at least give honest voice to the fact that he is NOT Muslim.

The second round was even more offensive.    Lately e-mails have circulated that list “coincidences” that point to the end of the world.   It then raises the question of Senator Obama being the antichrist!  THIS IS SIMPLY WRONG!    Throughout the history of the world people have tried to identify the antichrist.    Napoleon, Hitler, Idi Amin have all shared the title.    And apparently none of them were the antichrist…they were VERY bad people, but not that bad.

There is no single human more reviled by Christians than the image of this evil world leader who begins the times of tribulation.     Naming this person before he is truly revealed is a very slippery slope.   The Bible teaches that no one, not even the angels know the time and place of Christ’s return.   So technically, no one can really know who this person is.  And history teaches us that we can be wrong.    By raising the specter that Obama is the antichrist, you have asked an unanswerable question and placed a lingering doubt in the minds of many believers.   This does not strike me as something a church would start.    I can see others with a more urgent desire to see Senator Obama lose raise this question. They realize that every church has a member or two that would be willing to pass an e-mail along raising doubts in the mind of thousands.    In other words, the Church is being duped for political purposes.

The way people just pass the lies along by e-mail, taking no responsibility for their actions, is the saddest part of all.   (Because I don’t think many people truly believe this, otherwise they would be preparing to move to an out-of-the-way third world nation if Senator Obama is elected.)   This is merely the 21st Century equivalent of the rumor mill, untrue gossip that we enjoy because it’s so “exciting”.    By itself, it means little, but the problem is that it leaves a lingering doubt about the “character” of the candidate.   “He’s probably not the antichrist, but if everyone thinks he’s that bad….there must be something to it”.

Jesus said in Matthew 12:  36-37; “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgement.   For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

If we are judged by & condemned by the words we speak idly, are we also judged & condemned by our e-mails?

I am not necessarily asking that you support Senator Obama for President.   I do hope that everyone will take time to examine the issues to make an informed decision, you may find that he is a candidate you can support.   I do however ask that America’s Churches  take it upon themselves to speak out strongly against these e-mails and others like them.   They are nothing but malicious gossip being used to smear a good man.  And even if his political beliefs are not yours, it does not change the fact that he IS a good man with a family that can be hurt by your actions.

Please use next Sunday to speak publicly on this matter.    And please feel free to copy this post or e-mail it to any and all sources.    This is not an issue of policy but an issue of right & wrong.  IT IS WRONG TO SPREAD MALICIOUS GOSSIP BY E-MAIL AND IT REFLECTS POORLY ON THE BELIEFS OF THOSE WHO SPREAD IT.

Right on m37. Its about time people realize that Omama is nothing more than a Marxist spouting individual. I for one will not support anyone who dishonors his country, while exposing empty headed platitudes. Seems its ok for these folks to bring Government in to the Church on Sunday, but not the GOP. Vote no on Omama.

So many half-baked conclusions in this post. If someone forwards me an e-mail, then that means that they have little (or no) faith in God? Quite a leap, Nemo.

Let me start with the obvious stuff:

Obama used the churches to organize because he knew where he could find the only citizens in the area worth a tin whistle...in church. Not because he's Christian. You can go to the graveyard and steal gold from dead folk's mouths, but it doesn't make you a dentist.

I wouldn't use Obama's "church" to make your argument, we've all see examples of the "sermons" preached there. There's nothing Christain about Rev. Wright's messages. AT ALL.

We don't know what Obama's real religion is, all we know is that he spent his formative years in a radical Islamist hotbed of terrorist activity surrounded by radical religious fanatics, and his experience with American churches is limited to "The Church of Hatin' Whitey". Nothing there to feel good about for us actual Christians.

I'll let my Christian brothers and sisters make up their own minds, but believe me when I say that internet rumors will play little or no part on our decisions.

Stupid Christian Conservatives.

If our messiah doesn't win in November, it will be ALL YOUR FAULT.

You UNTEACHABLY IGNORANT rednecks cling to your guns and religion and won't let us turn America into the socialist utopia that we want it to be.

You stupid Conservatives and Republicans should just stay home and let us govern you.

After all, we're smarter than you, and we know what's best for you.

You are all taking this post out of context.

I am not trying to argue political issues on this one. I am merely asking that Churches speak out against malicious lies & rumors being spread about Sen. Obama.

That's all! Speak out against the LIES! Argue the policy differences!

Oh, I see. My apologies. You're right, we should absolutely speak out against the lies.

Tell ya what, Nemo. If you're really that concerned about Churches spreading lies, here's a GREAT place to start your crusade:

http://www.tucc.org/contact.htm

This "church" has been PREACHING that white people created AIDS, that white people are responsible for Katrina, and other lies so outrageous that they make B. Hussein's terrorist ties look quite insignificant.

PLEASE send them a letter (this bLog would do just fine) and let them know the error of their ways.

I would stay away from the Obama remarks though, since this shrine to hatred and lies was Obama's church for 20 years.

nemokc - You're right about one thing. We can't say Obama is the antichrist any more than you can say he isn't. But I'm with gjflash when it comes to his professed Christianity. He is NO Christian. If you believe that based on the church he attended, then you don't know what Christianity is about. And if you think he has now distanced himself from it for anything but political reasons, then you are blind.

I don't base my opinions on emails, in fact I usually delete things like that. What I DO base my opinions on are facts - like the fact that he won't put his hand on his heart for our National Anthem, or the fact that he can't even hold a phone rightside-up for one of his fake ads. Pictures don't lie.

Actually pictures do lie. Check out the Obama section on snopes.com. The upside down phone was photoshopped.

I'm waiting to see if Nemo called B. Hussein Obama's "church".

I'm guessing that his problem had more to do with people getting the actual facts about his boy B. Hussein than it did with churches.

This is a perfect example of liberal hypocrisy, I'm sure it won't be the last.

Actually, Nemo, I heard the opposite.

I understand that the photo of Obama having that "heartfelt conversation" is real, and that the Obamamites jacked with the real photo to make it look "photoshopeed".

I went to snopes, funny thing, I got most of the rumors about Obama CONFIRMED when I visited.

Have you talked to Obama's church about spreading lies yet? Let me know how that goes!

Let’s get real about Obama for a minute. We can’t say what’s in Obama’s heart, but nothing that he stands for and none of his friends and cohorts indicate that he is Christian. Racism flies in the face of Christianity, as does terrorism and Liberalism/Marxism. Obama is guilty of, or very closely connected with all of these. His church, spiritual advisor/mentor and other friends and family are associated with Nation of Islam, which is not traditional Islam, but Islam nonetheless. This is to say nothing of his father, grandfather and many other family members that are traditional Muslims. So to say that Obama is a Muslim, is not a lie or even stretching the truth, it’s a legitimate assumption.

The trick is getting people to check things out before they pass it along. This is called gossip and has been occuring throughout the ages. I believe it is addressed in the Ten Commandments, which many of our politicians are opposed to having posted publicly because they commit so many of the things mentioned in God's law. Bearing false witness is certainly nothing new, but the nature of today's political temperment openly invites it. Once again it all boils down to money and power. It is my supposition that some of these rumors are begun by one campaign committee or another. Politics in America have become ugly, and it is not just Mr. Obama on the receiving end. In his case, there at least have been some situations in his campaign to make him appear guilty of these offenses. While many jump to his offense, no one has addressed the virulent hatred, lies and overt disrespect that George W. Bush has endured these 7+ years. When a man sits in a church with his wife and impressionable children under the authority of a pastor who asks God to damn our country then professes to be a Godly, spiritual Christian - people have reason to doubt. Twenty years in that church and 7 or so years as a Christian and allowing your children to sit under that kind of brainwashing gives me pause to question. How many other black children are sitting under pastors and mentors who are teaching the same thing? It is unhealthy for them and for our country. This is the next generation of leadership. I agree with you that gossip is wrong, but what the Jeremiah Wrights are doing is far worse.

Ok, let's say for the sake of argument that the infamous picture was photoshopped. That occurred to me when I saw it. Was that the case in the picture where he refused to put his hand on his heart for the National Anthem? Didn't think so. He does not even respect the country that he wants to lead. And based on quotes from both Obama and his wife, they have no business in the White House. They are so obviously filled with hatred for my race and my country. I need something more than the word "change" to convince me otherwise. Change to what? Muslim rule?

I understand what you SAY you are saying, nemokc, but I think you are taking a stand to justify your candidate, not to take a stand about unfair politics, even if you don't see it yourself. No one has been more vilified in the media and the public than George Bush and White Christian Conservatives. Will you stand up for fairness towards them? Just a question. BTW- it's POLITICS- when in the last 20 years has that had anything to do with the TRUTH? LOL
