Daniel's Window

by Sanctus from Bronx, NY

Spring is almost here with its warm breezes, multi-colored blossoms and beautiful smells. If you close your eyes, you can almost hear the land awakening. It is a season of hope, of promise and one of joy. I know that when my personal time nears midnight, it will be all of my springs that I remember the most. Here is my nod, my thank you and my embrace for Spring, 2008. I hope that you can all take time to enjoy it. Peace

A Painting

If you look closely, you may see me there;
the sculpted waters in the southeast part
reflecting winter sun that strips me bare
and echoes with each Wordsworth that I start.
Dark persistent pigeons are astounding
huddled under parapets of cold stone.
Squirrels play in spite of icy pounding
upon the trails where they are often known
to tourists clicking photos with abandon
and children pointing, laughing with delight;
lovers pulled by horses roped in tandem
speak softly as they spin into the night.
Above my path a sparrow starts to sing
and burdens me with longing for the spring.

Thoughts to ponder and start the new season with. You write so well Daniel, you leave us looking for more. Thanks.

Daniel, you are truly talented. Your words are beautiful, your photos are beautiful and your family is outstandingly beautiful. I don't do well with cameras, but I love to paint similar types of landscapes that are in your photography. When I was nine years old growing up in Astoria, on the weekend I would take the subway into the city and go into Central Park with my sketch pad and draw the hillsides in the park, the animals in the zoo and the people at Bethesda fountain. Seeing your pictures brought back fond memories, thanks! I never knew the Bronx could look so beautiful! I am toatally appreciative of your work.
Thanks
BOB

Thanks for the comments! Bronxgirl. that is the best praise any writer could ever ask for. Bob, I'm not surprised that you caught the Central park theme. I spent a good part of my growing up years exploring Central Park myself, finding secret trails and spots (many of which are still there!) drawing pictures, reading, writing, watching and just moving, moving...I have been to some wonderful parks all over the world, but there is nothing like Central Park. I'd swear sometimes that it has a real personality! What can I say? It talks to me. Of course, the little poem above was written about the park. St. Mary's park in the Bronx was designed by the same gentlemen that designed Central Park and it had New York City's very first public playground for children. Now you know!

I just got a call from my daughter, who braved the chill to tell me that she's sitting on a bench in Central Park, and how she's missed it. Little did she know that as she was telling me about it, we were blogging about it! Being a music lover I used to dream about palying there, never thinking I would...but I did, The band sheel, The Shaeffer Festival, The Sheep Meadow With Lennon! It was so cool!
Thanks for the memories!

Wow, that is cool Bob. I wish that I could have been at any of those concerts. Pretty funny that your daughter called you just then too. Life is funny that way.

I love that pic....so serene.......not a cloud in the sky.... a spray of light like a Kincade painting. Where was it taken?

It was taken in St. Mary's Park in the Bronx.

Hello, Vanessa. Thanks for the comment, I agree 100%. I'm happy with today at 60 degrees and rising! I don't even mind the clouds.

No camera yesterday to capture baby lambs, baby garder snakes and such I saw. Harry, the black bear also appeared. Kept Angel away from him until he has a full belly.

Did fill the eyes with the beauty of naked trees before those buds unfold to show another beauty.

Daniel, have you ever wrote a poem for people who are divorced, reflected on what they learned from that relationship, and remembered why they fell in love the first place. A poem to thank the other for the experience. Do you understand where I am going with this?

Yes, I understand what you mean and I have written some poems that could be described as you have done above.
