I
watched the flag
Pass by one day,
It
fluttered in the breeze.

A
young Marine
Saluted it,
And then he
stood at ease..
I looked at
Him in
uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square
And eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I
thought how many men
Like him
Had fallen
through the years.
How many died on foreign
Soil
How many mothers' tears?

How
many pilots' planes
Shot down?
How many
died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers'
Graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the
sound of Taps
One night,
When everything
was still,
I listened to the bugler Play
And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how
many times
That Taps had
meant "Amen,"

When
a flag had draped a
Coffin.
Of a brother
or a friend.

I
thought of all the
Children,
Of the
mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and
Husbands
With interrupted lives.
I
Thought about a
graveyard
At
the bottom of the sea

Of
unmarked graves in
Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Today, the liberal assault on your First Amendment rights has been vigorously resurrected ...
...
and we now face the very real prospect of Christian and conservative broadcasters being tragically silenced.
We do not take this assault lightly - and we will meet it head-on with the force of our own convictions.
You
can help, too. Your signature on our online PETITION OF PROTEST
against the Fairness Doctrine and in support of the Broadcaster Freedom
Act represents our single best opportunity to succeed.
Here's why: The Broadcaster Freedom Act must pass Congress in
order to protect the free speech of Christian and conservative
broadcasters.
But there are those in Congress who wish to silence the conservative
point of view. Led by Speaker Pelosi, they have stalled the bill in
committee - hoping to reinstate the so-called "Fairness Doctrine"
unchallenged.
The Fairness Doctrine seems aptly named. It sounds appealing. But it's nothing more than a political trap ...
... Unabashedly aimed at establishing left-wing liberalism as the law of the land.
Broadcasters would be virtually forced to drop all controversial or
religious programming rather than deal with trying to strike an "even
balance" at their own expense.
As of right now, Congressmen Mike Pence and Greg Walden have collected
195 of the 218 signatures required for a "discharge petition" -
to end the stonewalling and force this bill to the floor of the House for a vote.
Exercise
your rights as a concerned citizen! Join the ACLJ and Congressmen
Pence and Walton in calling on Congress to vote, YEA OR NAY, on this
bill by adding your name to our nationwide PETITION OF PROTEST campaign.
HOWEVER, THIS LEGISLATION IS ON A VERY SHORT FUSE. WE MUST ACT NOW.
We need all 218 signatures on the discharge petition by July 4th for
there to be action on the Broadcaster Freedom Act during the 110th
Congress. After that, the election campaign season will be in full
swing, and a significant bill of this nature is not likely to be passed.
So
I urge you to sign the online PETITION OF PROTEST to House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi and your U.S. Representative right now and stand with the
ACLJ in support of free speech for Christian and conservative
broadcasters.Thoughts?

My Country 'Tis of Thee (America)
(written by Samuel Francis Smith
My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song.
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
Our father's God to, Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!

THIS IS MY COUNTRY! LAND THAT I LOVE!!!!!" />

Drive Offers Chance to Show Patriotism By Samantha L. Quigley/American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, May 22, 2008 - Tens
of thousands of care packages will be packed and ready for shipping to
servicemembers deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and on ships at sea in
time for Independence Day.
Operation Gratitude’s annual
“Patriotic Drive” makes sure servicemembers have a little piece of home
around the nation’s birthday.
"This will be the
fastest-paced care package drive we have ever undertaken," said Charlie
Othold, director of operations. "We only have two weekends of prep work
and two weekends of assembling, but we will get a package shipped to
every servicemember whose name we receive."
Seven days
a week since May 1, volunteers and military officials have been
sorting, inspecting and organizing millions of donated items, paving
the way for the packing to begin.
On May 17, the
opening day of the box-packing portion of the Patriotic Drive, more
than 60 Operation Gratitude supervisory volunteers were honored with
the presentation of the "President's Volunteer Service Award."
Boxes
will continue to be packed during the coming Memorial Day weekend as
well. In observance of the May 26 holiday, the organization will pay
tribute to wounded warriors with a screening of the documentary
"Warriors … in Their Own Words.”
Operation Gratitude
will celebrate a significant milestone that day, too. Its 350,000th
care package, the contents of which will remain a secret until the
moment the box hits the packing line, will be packed.
The last three milestone Operation Gratitude care packages contained the keys to new Dodge or Jeep vehicles.
Operation
Gratitude accepts care package donations all year, but with the recent
postal rate increases, Bill Van Trump, development director, is
encouraging supporters to donate funds to pay postage costs, rather
than purchase items for the packages.
"We have been
extremely fortunate to receive very generous product donations from our
corporate sponsors this year," Van Trump said. "Our biggest needs now
are funds and personal, hand-written letters."
Operation
Gratitude, which annually sends thousands of care packages to deployed
servicemembers, is a supporter of America Supports You, a Defense
Department program that connects citizens and companies with
servicemembers and their families serving at home and abroad.

Democrats Unaware of US Warning About Border Violence
Posted by:
Eddie B. in
Elected officials,

CNSNews.com
Three Democratic lawmakers who spoke Wednesday about alleged
anti-immigrant coverage by conservative media outlets were not aware of
a recent State Department travel alert warning Americans about
military-like “combat” along the southern U.S. border in Mexico, where
Americans are being kidnapped and murdered.
“The situation in northern Mexico remains very fluid; the location
and timing of future armed engagements there cannot be predicted,” said
the State Department alert. “Armed robberies and carjackings,
apparently unconnected to the narcotics-related violence, have
increased in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. Dozens of U.S. citizens were
kidnapped and/or murdered in Tijuana in 2007.”
When asked about the alert after the briefing, Sen. Robert Menendez
(D-N.J.) told Cybercast News Service: “I haven’t heard about the report
specifically, but certainly one of the reasons we are looking at the
Merida Initiative is to work with Mexico to have them meet their
challenges of the drug traffickers and the violence that takes place
along our border. It’s in our common interest and obviously this is a
challenge of security.” (The U.S. Merida Initiative provides equipment
and training to help Mexican law enforcement confront criminal activity
that spills over into the United States.)
The State Department’s alert was posted in April and dated as current as of May 21.
Reps. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) both spoke
to Cybercast News Service after the briefing and said they had no
knowledge of the travel alert but were aware of the volatility along
the U.S. southern border.
“I’ve read different reports of the violence in Mexico, and I am a
strong advocate for cracking down on the violence, and I’m very
concerned about the murder of women,” Solis said. “But I’m more
concerned about people having their civil rights violated here.”
“I haven’t seen the travel alert, but I’m going to take a look at
it,” Gutierrez said. “But does it surprise me? It doesn’t surprise me.”
Gutierrez blamed drug use in the United States for some of the violence.
“We are the consumers,” he said. “We are the cause.”
Speakers at the briefing said that CNN and Fox News Channel should
be held accountable for television personalities who have “played major
roles in creating this anti-immigrant hysteria,” specifically Lou Dobbs
and Glenn Beck on CNN and Bill O’Reilly on Fox.

“They're basically abandoned by their police officers or police departments in many cases,” Ahern told AP.

Associated Press
In this May 9, 2008, file photo, Mexican army
soldiers patrol the area near the site of a high level security cabinet
news conference after meeting with various sectors of society to
address the growing violence in the region in Tijuana.
At a glance:
WASHINGTON – Three Mexican police chiefs have requested political
asylum in the U.S. as violence escalates in the Mexican drug wars and
spills across the U.S. border, a top Homeland Security official told
The Associated Press.
In the past few months, the police officials have shown up at
the U.S. border, fearing for their lives, according to Jayson Ahern,
the deputy commissioner of Customs and Border Protection.
Ahern said the Mexican officials – whom he didn't name – are
being interviewed and their cases are under review for possible asylum.
In the most recent high-level assassination, a top-ranking
official on a local Mexican police force was shot more than 50 times
and killed. Drug-related violence killed more than 2,500 people last
year alone in Mexico.
“It's almost like a military fight,” Ahern said Tuesday. “I
don't think that generally the American public has any sense of the
level of violence that occurs on the border.”
As the cartels fight for territory, this carnage spills over to
the U.S., Ahern said – from bullet-ridden people stumbling into U.S.
territory, to rounds of ammunition coming across U.S. entry ports.

U.S. humvees retrofitted with
steel mesh over the glass windows patrol parts of the border to protect
agents against guns shots and large rocks regularly thrown at them. At
times agents are pinned down by sniper fire as people try to illegally
cross into the U.S.
Mexico's drug cartels have long divided the border, with each
controlling key cities. But over the past decade Mexico has arrested or
killed many of the gangs' top leaders, creating a power vacuum and
throwing lucrative drug routes up for the taking.
President Felipe Calderón, who took office in December 2006,
responded by deploying more than 24,000 soldiers and federal police to
areas where the government had lost control. Cartels have reacted with
unprecedented violence, beheading police and killing soldiers.
In general, violence along the U.S. border has gone up over the
years. Seven frontline border agents were killed in 2007, and two so
far in 2008. Assaults against officers have also shot up from 335 in
fiscal 2001 to 987 in fiscal 2007.
There have been 362 assaults against officers during the first
four months of 2008, according to Border Patrol statistics. The pattern
has been that when more security resources are deployed along the U.S.
border, violence against officers spike in response.
Most assaults are along the San Diego and Calexico, Calif., border, as well as the Arizona border near Yuma and south of Tucson.
Now, about 14,000 U.S. border agents work on the southern border, up from more than 9,000 in 2001.
The Bush administration has requested $500 million to fight drug
crime in Mexico. Congress is currently considering the proposal.

Let's say I break into your house
A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials
In ages!!! It explains things better than all
The baloney you hear on TV.
Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place
Across the country protesting the fact that Congress
Is finally
addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that
The US might protect its own
Borders, might make it harder
To sneak into this country and,
Once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand
The thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your
house.
Let's say that when you discover
Me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, 'No! I like it here.
It's better than my house. I've made all
The beds and washed the
Dishes and did the laundry
And swept the floors. I've
Done all the things you don't
Like to do. I'm hard-working
And honest
(except for when I broke into your house) .
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to feed
me
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
my husband will do all of your yard work because
He is also hard-working and honest, except for that
Breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
House carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have
A nicer house than I do, and I'm just
Trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well,
You know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!
I live in your house, contributing only a
Fraction of the cost of my keep, and
There is nothing you can do about it
Without being accused of cold,
Uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
Bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! So you
can
Communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous
This is?! Only in America
If you agree, pass it on ( in English ).
Share it if you see the value of it.
If not blow it off.........
Along with your future Social Security
Funds, and a lot of other things.

All Presidential Candidates SUPPORT Amnesty For 12 MILLION Illegal Aliens
Immigration Policies HURT American Workers
Presidential Hopefuls John McCain, Barack Obama, & Hillary Clinton
On the campaign trail, all 3 leading Presidential candidates have claimed to be strong supporters of American workers.
Yet all 3 have sworn to grant a massive amnesty for 12 million illegal aliens, one of the key factors contributing to lower American wages and increased unemployment.
If
the candidates were serious about supporting American workers, they
would support policies which limit illegal aliens in our workforce.
Question: What do you & I do about this?
Vote for one of them???

How old
is Grandpa??
Put your guess in now, then follow the rest of the story.

Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.
One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current
events.
The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the shootings at
schools, the computer age, and just things in general.
The Grandfather replied, 'Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:
' television
' penicillin
' polio shots
' frozen foods
' Xerox
' contact lenses
' Frisbees
and
' the pill
There w ere no:
' credit cards
' laser beams or
' ball-point pens
Man had not invented:
' pantyhose
' air conditioners
' dishwashers
' clothes dryers
' and the clothes were hung out to dry
in the fresh air and
' man hadn't yet
walked on the moon

Your Grandmother and I got
married first, . . And then lived together.
Every family had a father and a mother.
Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, 'Sir'.
And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title,
'Sir.'
We were before gay-rights, computer- dating, dual careers, daycare
centers, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common
sense.
We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up
and take responsibility for our actions.
Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger
privilege.
We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.
Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your
cousins.
Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze
started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and
weekends-not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks,
CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our
radios.
And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy
Dorsey.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan
' on it, it was junk
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.
Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.
We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10
cents.
Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a
nickel.
And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps
to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.
You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, . . . But who could afford one?
Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.
In my day:
' 'grass' was mowed,
' 'coke' was a cold drink,
' 'pot' was something your mother
cooked in and
' 'rock music' was your grandmother's
lullaby.
' 'Aids' were helpers in the Principal's
office,
' ' chip' meant a piece of wood,
' 'hardware' was found in a hardware
store and
' 'software' wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually
believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No wonder people call us
'old and confused' and say there is a generation gap... And how old do you
think I am?
I bet you have this old man in mind...you
are in for a shock!
Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same
time.
Are you ready ?????
This man would be only 59 years old!

Dear Newsmax Reader:
Please
find below a special message from our sponsor, Americans for Tax
Reform. They have some important information to share with you. Thank
you.
Thank you.
Newsmax.com

Dear Newsmax reader,

How exactly do higher taxes help lower energy costs? (Hint: They don’t.)
It’s one question the Democrat leadership in Congress can’t answer, no matter how long they talk.
The
truth is, the tax and spend crowd is just looking for ways to increase
taxes on American consumers by targeting domestic energy production.
At a time when already high energy costs are weighing heavy on this
country’s economy, and when signs are indicating that even more trouble
may be ahead, why would Congress seek to pass legislation that will
raise prices and increase financial hardships by strangling America’s
energy supply? Congress should be looking to cut taxes, not increase
them. Higher energy prices won’t avert or minimize a recession. They’ll do just the opposite.
Take Action now to stop higher energy costs!
Tax increases like those passed through the House (including bills that violated the Taxpayer Protection Pledge)
would stifle investment, and the domestic energy it produces. One chief
target of the left is the destruction of Section 199 of the tax code,
which would chase away capital now being invested here at home by
America’s oil and natural gas producers. The right way to promote the use of alternative energy is not limiting access to new domestic energy sources of oil and natural gas, or imposing new taxes on the U.S. oil and gas industry. Such an approach will not
help supply stable and affordable energy to satisfy the demands of
American families, especially at a time when Americans are already
struggling in today’s economic slowdown.
What
it will do is help push the economy over the precipice into deep
recession by driving up the costs of driving our cars, heating our
homes and creating jobs.
In
addition, raising taxes on domestic energy makes U.S. oil and natural
gas exploration projects less competitive globally, discouraging new
U.S. production and increasing our reliance on imported oil. As if that
weren’t damaging enough, almost all large oil and gas companies are
publicly-traded entities, whose shares are owned by millions of
investors through their 401(k) plans, IRAs and pension funds. Taxing
away the retirement earnings of these millions of Americans won’t help
anyone except the taxman.
Take Action Now: Tell your member of Congress
to oppose energy tax hikes!
Onward,
Grover Norquist
President of Americans for Tax Reform

Illegal Immigrant Births - At Your
Expense
[CBS Evening News] MCALLEN, TX
Taxpayers Foot Bill For Roughly 300,000 Children Born Into
Citizenship When Their Parents Are Illegal
"It was 5 a.m. and CBS News national correspondent Byron Pitts is
with a woman who is nine months pregnant. She's rushed to a south Texas
hospital to undergo a C-section - a $4,700 medical procedure that won't
cost her a dime. She qualifies for emergency Medicaid.
She gave birth to a healthy, 8 1/2 pound baby boy - born in America. His Mexican mother gave him an American name: Eliot.
Eliot
is one of an estimated 300,000 children of illegal immigrants born in
the United States every year, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.
They're given instant citizenship because they are born on U.S. soil,
which makes it easier for their parents to become U.S. citizens.
That's because those babies can eventually sponsor their parents - when they turn 21 years old.
As for Eliot's mother, no longer as fearful of deportation, she told CBS News her name, Fabiola, and her story.
"So your son is an American citizen. What does that mean to you?" Pitts asked.
"I
am very glad that he was born. That's why I came here - so my children,
my husband and I could have a better life," she said through a
translator.
Back in December, when she was six months
pregnant, Fabiola, her husband and their two daughters - ages 4 and 11
- crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico into the U.S.
Once on the
other side of the river they walked for two hours in search of a better
life and free medical care for their unborn child.
"Do many women in Mexico make the choice to have their children in the United States?" Pitts asked.
"Yes,"
she said through a translator. "I know people who have done that.
Things are much better here in the U.S. because they help children so
much more."
It's a "better" life ... that American taxpayers help pay for.
Take
healthcare for example -- an estimated $1.1 billion per year for
undocumented men, women and children, according to the Rand
Corporation."

Remarks from... GEORGE CARLIN (His wife recently died...)

Isn't
it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70's and 80's - could
write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate.
A Message by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways
,
but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but
enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more
conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more
knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more
medicine, but less wellness.
We
drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little,
drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read
too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've
learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life
not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but
have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor We conquered
outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not
better things.
We've
cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom,
but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more
computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever,
but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast
foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits
and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more
divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. Thes e are days of quick
trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands,
overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet,
to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and
nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter
to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or
to just hit delete...
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember,
say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that
little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember,
to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only
treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember,
to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of
all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from
deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
If you
don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?
